Spencer, Iowa is located at the confluence of the Little Sioux and Ocheyedan Rivers. The population was 11,233 as of the 2010 census. Spencer is the county seat of Clay County. Spencer is famous as the home of the Clay County Fair, held annually in September for 9 days. The Clay County Fair averages 315,000 visitors per year. Spencer’s Main Street District is on the National Historical Register due to having the largest Art Deco collection of buildings in Iowa and 2nd or 3rd in the nation. Spencer’s “Grand Avenue Improvement Committee” also put the North Grand Avenue Boulevard (8th – 18th Street) on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. |
