Mountain Lodges to Expansive Waterways
Highway 71 from Alma to Fayetteville was designated as an Arkansas Scenic Byway in 1998. Scenic Highway 71 begins at the edge of the Arkansas River Valley and extends 42 miles across the Ozark Mountains to Fayetteville. These rugged mountains are home to quaint craft shops, mountaintop lodging, and spectacular vistas.
Miss Laura's Visitor Center

It was a raucus border town perched on the edge of the Oklahoma territory and was home to adventurers, outlaws, cowboys and outcasts. The visitor center is known as Miss Laura's after Laura Zeigler who built the ornate 2 story house as a brothel conveniently situated between the railroad tracks and the river. Now the brothel still serves visitors by providing information and giving tours. |

Fouke Monster Mart
US-71 Fouke, AR 71837 (870) 653-2497 About 15 miles south of Texarkana is the little town of Fouke. In 1972 the movie "the Legend of Boggy Creek" premiered. It was filmed in and around Fouke as it is the area that many claim to have seen a tall hairy beast that haunted locals and attracted 1,000's of people to come hoping to see him for themselves. The Monster Mart has a small museum of artifacts and newspaper clippings related to the various sightings of the Fauke Monster. The nearby Sulphur River and Boggy Creek area provides great cover for wildlife and some say still is home to the Boggy Creek Monster. |
